Here's a quick conversation we had with Tod...then, a video clip from the soon to be revealed Fresh Perspectives site.
Here's our 5 questions for Tod:
tbp-What is your favorite camera?
ts- I use both a Hasselblad medium format film camera and a Canon DSLR. While the Canon is great at capturing fast-moving moments, I don't think there is anything as satisfying and shooting with and seeing the results from a Hasselblad.
tbp-Do you typically work solo or with assistants? a crew?
ts- Always solo.
tbp-Have you ever been hired to take a photo that you didn't want to take?
ts- Of course. It happens a fair bit, but it's just part of the life of a freelancer. Even when it's extremely unexciting to me, I try to focus on some aspect to keep myself interested, even if it's just some technical tricks or trying something new I wouldn't have normally thought of.
tbp-What's harder to capture, people or objects?
ts- People are always harder... and more interesting.
tbp-Do you have a dream location shot?
ts- I'm always interested in shooting somewhere new, somewhere where every turn of a corner is a whole new collection and collision of light, shapes, colors, lines and intersecting relationships. I have become a bit obsessed with the idea of the landscape of Iceland as of late. I think I will try to make it there, or maybe India, in the next few years.
